THE MIDNIGHT SIGNAL

A missing archive. A silent radio tower. Three suspects. Can you solve the mystery before dawn?

◈ 8–12 minutes ◈ 3 endings ◈ Free browser game

How to play

Open the evidence files in any order, solve the optional archive code, then choose one suspect. Each accusation reveals an ending. Tap or click a file heading, or use Enter/Space on the keyboard. Close the files and replay to test another theory.

00:17 — The radio tower goes silent

At 12:17 a.m., the emergency transmitter broadcasts six seconds of static. Someone has copied a sealed safety-test archive. The original file is still there. Cameras went dark for six minutes, and nobody exited through the main gate.

Suspects: Dev, the curator who owns the archive badge; Nila, the maintenance engineer; and Arjun, the night guard.

01 · Examine the evidence

📼 File A — The camera blackout

Security video stopped between 00:12 and 00:18. A manual bypass—not a power failure—caused it. Maintenance key signed out to Nila at 23:48; returned at 00:27.

Deduction: The person holding the key could disable the cameras.

🪪 File B — The borrowed badge

The archive door opened at 00:16 using Dev’s badge. But the handover sheet says “23:50 — Dev lends badge to Nila for diagnostics.” Dev was on a recorded remote briefing from 00:05 to 00:25.

Deduction: Badge ownership does not prove who used it.

📡 File C — The blue case

At 00:20, Arjun saw Nila descend the service stairs with a blue equipment case. Gate log: no exits from 23:45 to 00:40. A transmitter record shows a local file copy at 00:17 and no outgoing network transfer.

Deduction: The copy may still be inside the building.

02 · Optional archive lock

The keypad displays three instructions: fourth lamp → first antenna → seventh relay. Choose the code:

147

Incorrect order. Follow the arrows.

471

Incorrect. Read each instruction left to right.

417

ACCESS GRANTED ✓ The archive was copied to a removable drive at 00:17. A note reads: “The test readings were altered. Preserve an untouched copy for independent review.” The motive may be whistleblowing, but who had the access?

03 · Choose your accusation

Pick one suspect before opening the ending. Can you support your choice with at least two independent records?

Accuse Dev — The curator

Ending: The badge trap

You arrest the badge owner, but the lending sheet and recorded briefing undermine your case. The operator escapes scrutiny. Unsolved. Revisit File B.

Accuse Arjun — The guard

Ending: The wrong witness

Arjun reported the blue case but was never placed at the bypass panel or archive door. His report narrows the timeline. Unsolved. Revisit Files A and C.

Accuse Nila — The engineer

Ending: The signal was a warning ✓

Nila held the bypass key, borrowed the badge, entered the archive and copied the file locally. She admits preserving evidence of altered safety readings. You secure the drive and arrange independent review. Her motive does not excuse bypassing security. Case solved.

Replay challenge

Rookie: Read all three files. Detective: Solve with any two. Expert: Make a hypothesis from one file and test it against the rest. Close the opened panels to replay.
