Being independent is difficult when you have family and friends around. It’s a good thing, they love you and care for you. But tell me one thing? Does it not make you more dependent on them?

Being independent is hard to explain, yet we can see it in our behaviors and decisions. Every time letting others make your decision is not a good thing, sometimes you need to drive your life too.

Here are some steps on how you can be more independent.

  • Get to know yourself- No one knows you better than you do. So being independent is knowing yourself better than others.
  • Question yourself- Don’t believe everything you see and hear, always be willing to question it. Often we believe what others say, without knowing their sources.
  • Be clear about Life- There are things you should do and also which you shouldn’t. So you must differentiate between the two. Those who are not clear about it are guided by others.
  • Take your decisions- Everything from your shoes to your career should be your decision. You can take help from others, but the final decisions must be yours.
  • Think about your needs too- Thinking and meeting others’ needs is great, but it does not mean ignoring yours.
  • Know your feelings- Find some space for yourself. Acknowledge your feelings and don’t run away from them.

Everyone should be independent in life. Being independent or thinking about yourself is not a bad thing, it makes you more confident and humble.
