In today’s world, effective communication is very important for career growth. Speaking is one of the efficient means of communication. No matter what is your profession. You know this, yet you are not confident about your speaking. Feeling nervous is common but don’t be afraid of it, rather try to work on it. Effective communication is very important for our career and growth.

Here are a few things you can do to improve your speaking

1. Practice

You need to practice, the more you practice, the more fluent you will be. No one is born a brilliant speaker. The thing is that they practiced a lot. So, keep reading and practicing until you are good at it.

2. Make a plan

Don’t go out saying whatever comes to your mind. Prepare the speech beforehand, and make notes about the topic.

3. Body language

Believe it or not, it plays an important role. The way you hold yourself speaks a lot about who you are. The first thing your audience sees before your speech. Here are quick tips, don’t lean forward, keep a straight posture, shoulders back and head held high and be confident.

4. Don’t be in a hurry

Speaking too quickly is not a good thing. It gives others the impression that you are insecure or lack confidence. Whereas, speaking at a good pace and calmly appears more confident.

5. No filler wood

Words like “um”, “like”, and “uh” are filler words. you use them when you don’t know what to say next or had lost track of the content. The best thing you can do is to keep quiet or drink some water.
