You knew your decision was wrong, but you are not willing to accept your mistake. Accepting mistakes is one thing, most of us don’t do easily. Sometimes it is due to fear, Shame, or Self-esteem.
Do you Remember as a child, we used to blame one another for our mischief or mistakes. We all have grown up but still Some of us are doing it, we don’t accept our mistakes, acknowledge our actions, and blame it on others, as we are afraid of punishment or losing our job.
For Some, accepting mistakes is a sign of weakness but trust me it’s not, in fact, it is the quality of the strong. Only strong people can only accept their mistakes.
Accepting is not easy when there is a lot to lose, your job, career, pride, and sometimes relationship also. This is not always correct, in fact not accepting mistakes will make you lose those.
If you have made a mistake, accept it. Take responsibility for it. Not accepting it is a bigger mistake than making one. The earlier one accepts, the lesser harm it will do to them and others. Today you are not accepting, but one day you have to. You can’t ignore it.
Accepting mistakes is important For
1. Learning
You may have heard, “we learn by our mistakes” and this is indeed true, as the chances of doing the same mistakes again are very less. This is because, in the back of your mind, you will know that this way had not worked earlier, and so you will try another way.
No one is perfect, and that makes us more human. Whenever we try something new or think out of the box, there is a high chance of failing. That is quite ok until you stop learning from it or do it again. Never be afraid of failure, nor hide your mistakes.
Everyone who has tried something new has done a lot of mistakes before it.
2. More Focused
Admitting your mistake is important not only for your personal as well as for professional development also. Why I am saying so is, It makes you focused and determined toward the job you are doing.
When you are focused, the chances of doing mistakes are less. And, You will be more focused while doing the job. Your previous experience will guide you to not do the same mistake again.
3. Leadership skills
It takes courage to admit your mistake. Everyone can’t do it. Accepting mistakes and taking responsibility for the job is the true definition of a leader. They don’t blame their subordinates or colleague for their mistake.
Who is a leader, A leader is one who motivates and sets an example for the team, and their subordinates look after them for inspiration. Why a leader should accept mistakes, if he/she can’t admit their own mistakes then how can they or ask their subordinates for doing that?
Conclusion
Instead of running from your mistake or blaming others, you should find solutions for them. Some say that accepting mistakes is a sign of weakness but trust me it’s not, strong people can only accept their mistakes.
No one is perfect, and that makes us more human. Whenever we try something new or think out of the box, there is a high chance of us failing. That is ok until you stop learning from it. Everyone who has tried something new has done a lot of mistakes before it.
