What is an SEO checklist?

An SEO checklist is a list of steps and tasks to be completed in order to optimize a website for search engine optimization. This includes tasks like optimizing the website’s content, structure, and code, setting up the appropriate meta tags and headers, and building external links to the website. Additionally, a comprehensive SEO checklist should include tasks such as setting up Google Analytics and other tracking tools, creating a sitemap, and submitting the website to search engines.

Things to include in the SEO checklist

Here is an SEO checklist to keep your articles at the top of search results.

1. Identify target keywords and phrases

Start by researching and identifying the most relevant and effective keywords and phrases that relate to your business, products, and services.

2. Check for Indexability

Use tools such as Google Search Console to check if your website has been indexed by Google and if there are any crawl errors or issues with your website.

3. Optimize your title tags

Your title tags should include the primary keyword or phrase for each page and should be no longer than 60 characters.

4. Optimize your meta descriptions

Meta descriptions should include the primary keyword or phrase for each page and should be no longer than 155 characters.

5. Optimize your headings

Your headings should include the primary keyword or phrase for each page and should be no longer than 70 characters.

6. Optimize your page content

Ensure you have at least 300 words of content on each page and include the primary keyword or phrase at least 3–4 times.

7. Optimize your images

Ensure all images have an alt tag that includes the primary keyword or phrase.

8. Optimize your internal links

Link to other pages on your website using the primary keyword or phrase as the anchor text.

9. Optimize your external links

Link to other relevant websites using the primary keyword or phrase as the anchor text. Backlinks are like recommendations from other websites. They show search engines that your website is trustworthy and popular

10. Check for broken links

Use a tool such as Google Search Console to check for any broken links on your website. Understanding the Google search console will help you learn about the keywords for which your website is ranking.

11. Monitor and track your website’s performance

Use a tool such as Google Analytics to monitor and track the performance of your website.

That’s all you need to do.

It wasn’t that easy, but if you follow the above checklist, you are certain to improve your rankings and bring more traffic to your website.
