Do you use Facebook and Google to sign up for and to log into other websites?

When we create an account on a new website, most of us use Facebook and Google accounts to sign in to it. Though there are other platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn that are used to log into other websites, Facebook and Google are preferred more.

SSO, or single sign-in, is using one website account to sign in to another one. Using Facebook to sign up or Google to log in is called SSO. Why do we do it? This process is quick, instead of creating a new account from scratch.

But SSO gives you limited authority when you log into other websites, and you have less control over the information being shared between websites. Information like email addresses and names are likely to be shared. And apart from profile photos and birthdays, nothing more is shared.

How it helps

SSO saves time and the hassle of filling out forms from scratch. You don’t have to fill out the personal details again and again while you log into other websites, as These are shared by social media accounts. Also, you do not trouble yourself to remember all those usernames and passwords.

What it concerns

Everything has its benefits and concerns. Some of which is that you don’t have full control over the information being shared. Whenever you use Facebook or Google to sign in, please go through the information being shared.

If your social media accounts are hacked, then every site linked to it is at risk to be hacked too. Hackers knew this, which is why they attacked these social media websites. But this platform has spent millions on its security, and it is difficult to hack them.

Conclusion

Always, before using your social media accounts like Google and Facebook to sign up for a new website. Go through the privacy and data-sharing policies of the website and see the information being shared.
